The use of photographs of photo prop Barbary macaques by the Moroccan media reinforces the idea that macaques enjoy the awful life they are forced to lead as they are kept on chains (and sometimes beaten with those chains), and kept in small dark boxes when they are not “working”. We urge Moroccan journalists and media professionals to boycott the use of such photos when they discuss Moroccan tourism.

“Inappropriate and harmful images of primates include those that depict the animals wearing clothing or accessories; displayed in a studio or other human environment; exhibiting trained behaviors; and engaging in unnatural interactions with humans, such as holding hands or being held.”
